As a follow-on from my recent post Making Your Voice Heard, here is a terrific example of how one teacher leapt into advocacy and action.  In a letter to the editor of The Salem News, Peter Holtz discussed how he spoke to staff of two senators at Capital Hill.  He said, “Since I am a classroom teacher, I wanted my [political representatives] to hear about some of my students.  I told them about some of the kids who came into my classroom each day carrying the burden of overwhelming personal challenges…”

After my post yesterday, I received an email from Joy Tong, the director of All Special Kids (ASK) http://www.allspecialkids.org/ which is a Geneva-based network that supports the families of children with special needs and learning difficulties. Joy told me about the website http://www.Adlit.org (All About Asolescent Literacy) which is a terrific resource for parents and educators for children in grades 4-12. I hope Joy will pop in to the blog from time-to-time to tell us more about the fabulous work she is doing to support students and families in Switzerland.
